The Home in the Village of Lesotho
A place of safety and welcome, where a person’s basic needs are met.
Semonkong Children's Centre and is a safe place for 50 children at any one time, who are particularly vulnerable and in need of care. Lesotho has one of the highest HIV/AIDS prevalence rates in the world, leaving hundreds of thousands of children orphaned. Semonkong Children's Centre provides the holistic and loving care all children deserve.
The Village supports Semonkong Children's Centre by providing salaries, to ensure the highest care possible for the children and funding all the children to attend full-time education.
We also provide skills training in carpentry, woodwork, computer, and glasswork. This training will provide a strong foundation for the future lives of the children, giving them vocational opportunities to provide skills badly needed in the local community.
In 2020, The Village will also provide skills training in sewing, knitting, weaving, hairstyling, leatherwork, cooking and more. This training is key to the long term sustainability of the individual beneficiaries as well as The Village.
Later this year, we will launch The Village of Lesotho Market, which will sell, in part, the services and products generated in the Skills College to the local community. The income will go back into the running of the programmes and to the beneficiaries.
"We communicate beyond just their basic needs. we take care of their emotional needs as well as their spiritual needs"
- Retha, Director of the Semonkong Children's Centre
